If this revitalized duplex looks familiar, that is because it was on the 2023 Munger Place Wine Walk & Homes Tour. At that time, it was down to the studs with only visions of future renovations. Well, the owner has moved in and opened her doors for us to appreciate all the completed, hard work. Take note of the original features including the pine wood flooring towards the back of the house and the clawfoot tub in the hallway bathroom (that was found decaying in the backyard and refinished). Recent updates include the tiled entryway, beautiful new kitchen, added primary bathroom, and the gorgeous wallpapered shelving in the kitchen that served as inspiration for the colors of all the spaces. Thoughtful touches such as reclaimed lighting round out the updated rooms.

The origins of this home began in late 1922 when a building permit was filed calling for two apartments to include 12 total rooms with a brick veneer exterior for $8,500. The original owner was Mrs. Mattie Sherard, a public grade school teacher for 12 years before teaching French at The School of Cultural Arts in 1929.

The duplex has mirrored the ups and downs of the neighborhood, such as when it was listed for sale in 1945 for $9k, barely more than the cost to build it twenty years prior. Throughout the years, portions of the duplex were put up for rent. In 1946 an advertisement highlighted its unique features including the service porch, spacious closets, fluorescent lights, Venetian blinds, hardwood floors, air conditioning, and 3 car garage (which no longer exists). This duplex is now back on the upswing, thanks to the current owner.
