This stately home is a sub-type of the Prairie style known as Prairie Box or American Foursquare which features low-pitched hipped roofs and symmetrical exterior façades. The unique front door trim has Sullivanesque decorative floral and circular geometric pattern details. The home’s restoration was completed in 1999 but done in a manner that the first homeowner, Edward T. Harrison, would still recognize the original 1911 interior features that include the leaded glass windows, bookshelves, cabinets, moldings, inlaid wood flooring, coffered ceilings, and geometric stained glass that reflects Frank Lloyd Wright’s influence.

The building permit for 4928 Junius was filed in the summer of 1910 calling for a two story, eight room, brick veneer home costing $4,600. Edward T. Harrison, a wealthy attorney and insurance magnet, called this home until 1914. Another prominent former resident, Sanford A. Stewart, a former WWI Army Captain and district manager of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, lived here until the ‘30’s. As an ideal home for entertainment through the years, this home has hosted many happy occasions, from weddings and Woodrow Wilson High graduation events to Shakespeare Study Club meetings in the 1920’s and Munger Place neighborhood Christmas and Porch parties in the 2020’s.

Be sure to notice the large coffin front door (big enough to fit a coffin through), the no-longer used brick furnace and coal chute in the finished basement, and the shotgun closet in the stairwell.

Wine Offerings

Select One of Three from The Wine Therapist:

Boisson Bordeaux Blanc (white)- A vibrant blend of Sauvignon Blanc and the lesser-known Sauvignon Gris from the Loire Valley, this is a white wine bursting with tropical fruit and flowering herbs.

Ammunition Pinot Noir (red)- The wine opens with a cascade of fruit flavors; aromas of blueberry, strawberry and cherry dance in the glass. Hints of cinnamon and dried leaves help to bind those fruits throughout the sip. Bold from start to finish, you can expect rich, full chocolate-covered cherry and plum notes. Long, smooth tannins show off with a noteworthy finish.

Font du Vent Côte-du-Rhône (red)- Everything you want from a Côtes du Rhône - Fruity bouquet and taste with light pepper and wild herb complexity, fine tannins and a good lingering length. Dangerously drinkable.
